It is the mission of Engineers Without Borders- Northern New Jersey (EWB-NNJ) to implement sustainable development projects in communities around the world with the purpose of improving the standard of living to empower communities.  EWB-NNJ serves as a mentor for area universities to ensure the technical integrity of the projects while fostering social responsibility and global awareness in the students.  EWB-NNJ also strives to increase awareness of development issues among professionals and offer interested professionals an opportunity to use their skills and abilities to employ sustainable solutions to technical challenges of the developing world.

EWB-NNJ works to implement these goals through mentoring and assisting student chapters with their own community development projects.  Community development projects provide implementation of environmentally and economically sustainable engineering projects, while involving and training internationally responsible engineering professionals.

A diverse group of internationally aware and socially responsible professionals with backgrounds that vary from civil/environmental to mechanical and facility engineering comprise EWB-NNJ.  EWB-NNJ works with the national organization, EWB-USA, a non-profit humanitarian organization established to partner with developing communities worldwide to instill in them a better quality of life.  Our members are committed to the EWB vision of capacity building to create self-sustainable systems within developing communities, and empowering such communities by enhancing local, technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial skills.
